More Than 800 Employees Take Part in Conway Park Autumn Classic Run and Walk in Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – On a day marking a sunny start to autumn but cool enough to enjoy outdoor action, more than 800 employees representing the companies of Conway Park were cheered on by Chicago Bears mascot Staley during the 14th annual 5K run and 1-mile walk at Conway Park in Lake Forest on Sept. 24. More than 260 runners and hundreds of walkers participated in an exciting day of fitness, wellness, and competition.

Runners from Hospira won the corporate team trophy for the 5K. Medals were also awarded to the top three male runners: Bob LaRue (Hospira) 17:59, Jesse Luciano (Brunswick) 18:27 and Kyle Smith (Brunswick) 18:32; and top three female runners: Katherine Weber (Hospira) 21:11, Maribeth Yost (Trustmark Companies) 21:47 and Connie McFadden (Tenneco) 22:09.

“More of Conway Park’s businesses have caught the wellness bug, stepped up communications and encouraged their associates to participate,” said Kelly Tybor, Wellness Manager at Trustmark, which hosted the event. “This year, we had a record number of participants register for the event, ranging from elite runners to the lunchtime walker. And it didn’t hurt to have a beautiful race day.”

Bears’ offensive lineman James Brown was also on hand at the 14th Annual Conway Park Autumn Classic to sign “Real Bears Fans Wear Pink” shirts, raising more than $4,200 for Bears Care, which supports breast cancer patients and their families, and helps underserved women access critical breast health services.

“Attendees were not only enthusiastic about the run and walk, but also in supporting Bears Care by purchasing a T-shirt or making a charitable contribution,” said Emily Fischer, Health Fitness Professional, Trustmark. “And all were eager to meet offensive lineman James Brown, #78, get T-shirts signed and have their pictures taken with him.”

Chicago Bears’ mascot Staley charged up the crowd and led the walkers. Runners and walkers represented Abbott, Akorn, Hospira, Brunswick, Pactiv, Packaging Corp, Omron, Reynolds, Dart Container, Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, City of Lake Forest, Tenneco and Trustmark Companies.

Raffles prizes and giveaways were donated by Brunswick, City of Lake Forest Fitness Center, CrossFit Carbon, Ferentino’s, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Pleasant Prairie RecPlex, Polar, TriBalance Yoga Studio and Reebok.
