LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Trustmark Companies CEO, David M. McDonough, will be recognized as 2010 Leader of the Year by the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago at SUMMIT 2010 on October 27.
“Our goal in honoring Mr. McDonough is to celebrate his organization’s success and demonstrate the impact of productive people policies,” said Jeff Child, EVP, Chief Human Resources Officer, U.S. Cellular and Chair of HRMAC Board of Directors.
McDonough is being recognized for his unique approach to transform Trustmark and create a more flexible and adaptable culture ready to take advantage of opportunities more quickly and effectively. Using the “Trustmark Renaissance” to characterize the transformation, he worked hand-in-hand as a strategic partner with HR leadership to engage employees, drive innovative thinking and improve company performance.
McDonough invited all employees to participate in Trustmark’s Renaissance. To facilitate this, he worked with HR and an outside vendor to design an innovative training program to teach cross-disciplinary thinking. Renaissance teams created open forums for employees, who submitted more than 1,600 business and product ideas, leading the company to pursue its Consumer Health Advice growth strategy. Mr. McDonough also paved the way for leadership development initiatives, instituted an employee engagement survey, increased opportunities for interactive communication, and developed succession planning processes to build internal leadership bench strength and promote an environment of continuous learning.
As a result of this five-year initiative leveraging employees as the basis for the company’s “rebirth,” Trustmark has grown from 2,200 full- and part-time employees to over 6,000, expects to increase revenue in 2010 for the first time in eight years, has doubled its balance sheet strength and has gained a solid foothold in new, high-growth markets.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition from HRMAC,” said McDonough. “Trustmark has outstanding human resources, corporate communications and new business development teams that are fully aligned with our business strategy. This award reflects their work as well as the talent and dedication of all Trustmark’s employees. They have and continue to lead our remarkable transformation.”
