LAKE FOREST, Ill. – A BusinessWeek.com reporter praises Trustmark Companies’ employee-driven “Renaissance” initiative in a recent feature article. In the piece, Trustmark CEO and President Dave McDonough and Senior Vice President Kate Martiné, Human Resources and Corporate Communications, share thoughts on Trustmark’s internal and external evolution over the past three years.
The goal of the Renaissance initiative, which began July 2006, is to encourage Trustmark employees to think creatively and pursue ideas that have potential to boost profitable growth. Employees are encouraged to put tenets of the Renaissance into action by breaking through tradition, exploring new possibilities and asking what’s possible.
Trustmark’s Renaissance stemmed new innovations, from introducing CareChampion, a 24-hour health advocacy service, to the creation of an idea-inspiring “Da Vinci Den” great room, designed and used by employees at company headquarters. McDonough went on to explain that over the course of Trustmark’s ongoing Renaissance, seven major products and services have been introduced, including its Voluntary Benefits division’s accident insurance and CoreSource YourCare wellness outreach program.
The company’s new mindset did not go unnoticed by BusinessWeek, which said, “Trustmark is a company where fresh thinking is encouraged, whether it’s a novel product or service, a new sales channel, or even a simple gesture to show appreciation to a co-worker.”
BusinessWeek also explored how Trustmark’s Renaissance has been a key factor in its turnaround from a period of losses to the subsequent rise in financial strength ratings from A.M. Best and Fitch rating agencies.
The BusinessWeek piece gives recognition to what McDonough has continually voiced about the involvement of all Trustmark employees: “The Renaissance isn’t a strategy, but a state of mind. It’s about changing the way we look at our business.”
